Seawork 2013

Aquascan International Ltd will be on stand C85 at Seawork 2013 in Southampton 25-27th June 2013. We will be launching a special new product for sub bottom visual inspection.

Here is an extract from their website (http://www.seawork.com/):
“Aquascan International will be exhibiting the well known range of AQUAPULSE 1B underwater metal detectors and accessories; together with the DX-200 diver held magnetometer system. Aquascan will also be launching a completely new and innovative product called the JetCam; a burrowing 3 metre hollow probe with inbuilt camera; the system can easily penetrate mud and sediments to allow buried objects to be identified and inspected. The system is diver controlled and provides both diver and surface video monitoring and recording. A small surface water pump provides a water feed; this creates the necessary burrowing power and an inspection void ahead of the camera. A new Windows software product called GeoSounder will also be introduced as a survey support package for Sidescan Sonar and other sensors.”

New product – Palm Coil

Palm coilIntroducing the palm coil (AQ.3.007). This little coil is the size of a bonephone, and is small enough to slip inside a glove (turn your hand into a detector!). This enables an area full of clods (or crusty lumps) to be quickly sifted through. Pick up a clod, if the Aquapulse still detects then there is metal inside and you can bag it for examination later. This should be faster than offering each clod to a standard coil one at a time.

Prices are available on our price list on: http://aquascan.co.uk/aq1b.html

BLIND FAITH by the worlds worst treasure hunters (possibly maybe)

A new book by “the worlds worst treasure hunters (possibly maybe)” has just been published and is available to buy now.
Description:
Divers in Plymouth have written a book in which they say they have found the wreck of a 300 year old VOC shipwreck. The ship a Dutch East Indiaman “Aaktekerke” lays smashed and battered near a cliff inside Plymouth sound. In the book they have printed photos of their finds, their clues, charts and themselves diving on the ships cannons. The “Aaktekerke “was a massive ship with a 250 man crew and 40 cannons she, weighed nearly 1000 tonnes, loaded with treasure. She was on her maiden voyage having just set sail from Holland, after taking five years to build, only to be wrecked within a couple of weeks. The book claims the Plymouth locals did not come to the rescue of the ship in distress, far from it! They came to kill, rob and plunder a mob intent on doing whatever they could to get their hands on this very rich ship. The VOC which stands for Verenigde Oostindische Company The Dutch East India Company. This was the largest and most powerful company of all time. Carrying out thousands of voyages across vast oceans. During their 300 year history many hundreds of ships where wreck, but only a few have ever been found. Have they found a ship that was sunk off Plymouth in 1721, the Aatekerke? You will have to read the book and make up your own mind. 240 pages Hardback, with Colour Pages including Maps, Graphs etc.
During the expedition, the team used the Aquapulse metal detector (pictured on the front cover) and our DX200.

The book is available from dive outlets, or you can buy online at their blog or Amazon

Cannon Bay Dive Site – by Justin Woodhouse

Article by Justin Woodhouse – treasures found by Aquapulse

During the early 1900’s many men from Montenegro immigrated to the United States of America, arriving by steam ship past the statue of liberty, landing first on Ellis Island to be processed by immigration authorities before taking up jobs across the country, particularly in the mining industry. They enjoyed a good life in the neutral United States while in Europe their Balkan relatives were readying themselves for war.

Shortly after the first Balkans War of 1912-1913; which deposed the Ottoman Empire from the regions, a Serbian backed organization assassinated the heir of the Austro-Hungarian throne, causing the 1914 July Crisis which resulted in the outbreak of the First World War.

Despite living a good life in the neutral United States of America, many Montenegrin men returned home to help their countrymen in the fight against the Austro–Hungarian armies.
Montenegro suffered severely in World War I. At the first invasion of Serbia by the Austro-Hungarian armies, Montenegro declared war against the Austria-Hungary Central Powers, and received 30 cannons and financial help from Serbia to defend the coastline and mountain passes to the South and West of the frontline.

The cannons that were supplied by Serbia were the new Canon de 75 modele 1912 Schneider. This French World War I piece of 75mm artillery was designed and manufactured by Schneider et Ciein Le Creusot. It entered service with the French horse-mounted artillery in 1912 and some were sold to the army of Serbia and passed onto Montenegro. These guns were positioned to defend the coastline and crucial port entrances and had a range of 5 miles and could fire 15 rounds a minute.

At gun positions along the Przno Budva coast, men from Montenegro that had returned from the United States of America manned the guns in defence of their Country against the invading Austria-Hungary Central Powers.
Montenegro was supplied with necessary war material and food through the port of Bar, which was finally blockaded by Austrian battleships and submarines and despite a valiant defence of the country, the lack of vital materials needed to maintain the fight eventually lead Montenegro to surrender, and the country was occupied by Austria-Hungary in 1916.
At one position evidence of this epic struggle can still be found on the sea bed. Diving with an Aquascan metal detector, brass shell cases from a Canon de 75 modele 1912 Schneider were recently detected in the sand and between the rocks beneath an old gun position, also found were a considerable number of live misfired 75mm shells, and rifle ammunition cases that suggest more close quarter fighting in the area. Other brass shell cases were also found which are believed to be from a German or Italian anti-aircraft gun probably located on the same position during World War two.
By far the the most poignant find among the spent 75mm shell cases was a gilt watch fob medal; a cheap souvenir depicting the statue of liberty perhaps worn and lost by one of the brave Montenegrin men returning home from safety in the United States to defend their Country.

New Blog started by diver

This blog has been started by Howard Jones: http://www.themoreilook.blogspot.com/
Howard and his team exclusively use Aquapulse detectors, and managed to find a cannon and cannon balls off the coast of Plymouth. Keep looking back at the blog for updates.

Just imagine…

Just imagine if after a mag survey you go to an area with a magnetic anomaly and saw just a flat sea bed.
An Aquapulse or DX200 survey of the bottom pinpoints an object, but it’s buried quite deep. Would you spend time dredging/blowing that area just to find something of little monetary or archaeological value? What if you could see what was there before dredging? What if you could positively identify objects (shapes, colours, markings) buried up to 2.5m in the sea bed without massive disturbance? Well, Aquascan International Ltd is pleased to announce that such a system will soon be available… Watch this space!

More gold coins…

From Mike Brown, GA (via Bill Seliger, EO Industries)…
“I wanted to let you know the Aqua Pulse that I bought from you has more than paid for itself this summer! I partnered with Greg Bounds & Gold Hound this year and started diving in June. Gold Hound made the great cannon & coin finds before I made it down again to dive the last week of July. All week long I found artifacts, but no coins at all, not one piece of silver!

Then, on July 31st, 295 years to the day the Fleet went down, I found gold! Twice! The first was a Bogota One Escudo in nice shape. Then a hole later came the grand prize – a BEAUTIFUL Cuzco 1698 2E! It’s now believed to be the best known. What a great day for me & my Aqua Pulse!!”
